The last post before Christmas fun:) The shop has been SO busy that I haven't been able to blog as much as I had hoped. Just wanted to say a BIG thank you to everyone for your support again this year in making my shop such a happy place to be:) We will be back with even more exciting things next year with collaborations with some of the best Australian and New Zealand artists, and 2 other very big projects in the pipeline, oh so exciting.
We are open most of the Chrissy New year period, so come and visit us or shop online, we can still send out your parcels same day or next working day:) The shop is just closed 25th, 26th and 27th and then the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of January then back to normal shop hours for the summer:)

As an added bonus they are doing both days in the town Hall So Saturday and Sunday will be filled to the brim with handmade lovelies. So I was a little ambitious! A busy shop and orders galore have made me miss 2 days already in my goal for a blog a day:( Never mind I am here now so what's new? Well we are loading up the online site and store with gorgeous hampers and gift packs. We have more new ones arriving early next week too, check out our Christmas pretties category or HAMPERS online.

We also have special Christmas pass the parcels filled with lovely bob goodies with a real vintage theme, only $50 and beautifully wrapped in hand stamped papers and tied up with string.

WOW double hanky post, bet that hasn't been done too many times! This is our brand new range of BIG 42cmx42cm square handkerchiefs, that I was very flattered to be asked to do by Rosdale handkerchiefs:) I was very excited to be part of this great project after the success of Pocket Art and wow they look so amazing in their gorgeous glossy and embossed packaging and with 5 designs and 3 different colour ranges for each design, they look super impressive and make a beautiful gift. We have limited stock in store and online til Christmas.

OK now the Christmas cheer has begun! I love Christmas I always have, I love giving presents and having a day off, yeah! Eating great food and maybe a cider too, Mum's famous ice-cream cake and lots of hugs and smiles. bob is all about the celebration not the BAH Humbug. The great guinea pig dilemma

You know when you have taken on a bit too much! When you find yourself cutting on the front counter of your shop, because the back room is filled with half made toys, Christmas stock, new printing for journals and pass the parcel orders being made up. But making guinea pigs and bunnys on the counter isn't all it's cracked up to be, with fur flying around and losing eyeballs down the floorboard cracks, it was a task best left to the back room, hopefully I will get loads more finished and out on the shelves so we can finish off the little critters:)

We are proud to announce the launch of John Holtons new poetry books, "cowness" and "the little book of nowhere" both little books filled with the most touching, funny and beautifully written poems by John and all handmade and hand cut from start to finish on his kitchen table. Then placed in their own little handmade covers for you to take away a little piece of loveliness.

Jackie has the most beautiful eye for detail. Finding and putting together these gorgeous one off buckle brooches. We have a selection in store now that are truly beautiful. Jackie is from Castlemaine and we are so lucky to have her unique brooches in our shop:)

With loads of visitors heading to Bendigo over the next few months for the "White wedding dress" exhibition at the gallery, we decided to do a very special Bendigo show with a series of photographs never seen or published before, showing the last days of the tram passanger service through Bendigo streets in 1972. All taken by Gail Tavener (my Mum) who was pregnant with me at the time. Gail Tavener is a well established photographer and artist and this is the first time these photo’s have ever been seen in public. It shows Bendigo streets, some that haven’t changed others are unrecognisable, people waiting in line for their last special ride and conductors doing their work or having a chat also some amazing Easter parade shots. Mostly on Black and White film with some special colour slide prints, there are over 40 captivating images. It’s an amazing collection that I just couldn’t wait to get onto the gallery walls. We only have a small collection online. Please let us know if you cannot make it in for the exhibit and we can send you an email catalogue for orders. All images are for sale and 3 different print sizes are available plus a special canvas option for very large prints. The prettiest of brightly coloured goodies have arrived at the bob shop, in anticipation of a BIG week ahead, yes the White wedding dress is on at the Bendigo gallery and we are awaiting the lovely visitors to come and browse in our shops and drink lots of lovely coffee's:)
We LOVE the Moby Duck and her cute little bunnies and sweet birdy brooches, now the family has grown and we are SO excited to introduce new fawns, kingfishers, Elks and horse hairclips. WOW!

The very talented Andrea from Bendigo has the beautifully and time consuming label Stampel Studio. Found and reclaimed materials including timber off cuts, fabrics, paint chips and threads are all combined to make the most joyess jewellery pieces. Come in to see her delicate work.

A word about our livestock policy

A lot has been made about the treatment of livestock lately. At bob we only deal with the very best suppliers and packers. All sheep are well feed before departure and have comfy warm paper to lye in on their overnight journey to us here in Benda's. On delivery they are immediately taken out of boxes, cuddled and let loose in the bob shop where they await a loving new owner to take them home:)

Gold Dust lounge opens

Finally the work has finished downstairs from the bob shop. This is what it looked like 7am Thursday morning....

To this on Thursday night (opening night)...we were invited to the opening of the Gold Dust lounge. Lovely people, top atmosphere, we had loads of fun. And the best thing is no more jack hammering! But all the noise has been worth it, it is a really beautiful space, filled with an old fashioned warmth and good vibes. Open Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights from 7pm, over 25's only. Live music most nights. What a great space.

Introducing Moby Duck

Introducing Moby Duck the hand resined range of homewares and jewellery by the very talented Amy Marshall who is an American living in Melbourne.
All of the pieces are inspired by vintage or antique objects/ jewellery or clay originals that have been molded in rubber, then cast in resin. Once she has made a rubber mold,Amy is able to use that mold several times to cast different colours of each piece in jewellery quality resin. The pieces are finished with hand-sanding along rough edges, a soapy bath, and then an epoxy resin to securely attach findings. She loves sourcing and using vintage pieces because the texture of early plastics and glass replicate very well in the silicon molds to create "new-vintage" pieces.

Very exciting as the space below me is morphing into something really wonderful! We now have a window going in where there has always just been a grey brick wall. The workmen are doing such a great job and although loud, are looking after us upstairs, keeping our stairwell clean and always asking if we are OK and if we need any headache tablets!

A new year, a new decade and so much is going on, it's all very exciting. Below my little shop in the Hotel Shamrock a lot of banging and carting and crashing is going on. There are some cool spooky and intriguing spaces under the Hotel and i am always fascinated about what these rooms look like and what they used to be. It's been such a hectic time in the shop this week, it's been so nice! Lots of lovely people buying special things for special people.

Film screening at STAR

So excited to tell you all that after a BIG group effort in Benda's we have secured the craft doco "Making it Handmade" to be shown at Star cinema on Sunday the 12th of December. I will let you know the time when we have locked it in. But pencil it in now! well worth a look. Shown at the Melbourne international film Festival this year, I have had countless customers tell me of the surprising, funny, sometimes rude but utterly free and inspiring film that it was. the film maker Anna will be joining us for the day at the Star cinema and will answer questions after the screening. What a buzz. Stay tuned to the blog for more details as they come to hand.

Making it Handmade - by Anna Brownfield
A seditious and subversive subculture is gaining momentum in Melbourne. But rather than wielding megaphones and placards, they’re cross-stitching slogans on hurricane wire and constructing plush female genitalia from craft supplies.

Following four local women who’ve taken a seemingly staid past-time and injected it with a youthful, modern aesthetic, filmmaker Anna Brownfield shows a side of craft more closely aligned with punk DIY culture than with Martha Stewart and ‘home sweet home’ tapestries.

It was a cold Friday night when we set up our stall at Finders Keepers and VERY fresh when we headed in early Saturday morning to put the finishing touches on our bob stall

Lucky it turned out like this!!!

It was so nice to meet some of my suppliers face to face, the wonderful Kristine from Adorning Al, Louise from Frankie magazine Kirsteene from Scrumptious, Andrew from A Skulk of Foxes, Kristy from Lady Phillips, Lou from Buttons by Lou Lou, Brooke from brooke Johnson Design, Madeline Stamer the talented thing, Liz from Betty Jo and from Sydney Lyndsay and Ben from Made by White and Christina from Made590. It was so nice to catch up with people and put a face to the voice. It was so frantic but we did get to have a little bit of a natter. Massive thank you to the gorgeous Bec and Sally from Georgie Love who went out of their way to drive myself and Brian back to Blackburn from the city where we were staying the night. SO lovely of them and SO much better than getting the train when we were very tired...thanks so much!
And a big thanks to my friend Allison from Lark her lovely hubby Paul and gorgeous kids for being our neighbors for the day. It's always so nice to catch up and talk pretty things, even though it was so busy we didn't get much of a chance!

Vintage exhibition

In the gallery until the end of September we have a Vintage gown exhibition. Gorgeous handmade 50's and 60's dresses made in the Bendigo region for Mayor and Dahlia and Arts Balls. We have showcased theses gorgeous dresses with the new millinery work of local hat maker Bronwyn Rivett. Her Hats are just divine and capture that sense of occasion that is lacking in this age of quick fashion and casual dress. It is so nice to see how people really cared about dressing up and looking very special when they left the house for a day of shopping or a night out on the town. We are missing out!

I'm running around the Victorian country side at the moment. Checking that all my pretty bob stuff is being made by the best crafts people. Last week we went to Melbourne to check out Docklands and a couple of clothing factories.
Before we left we just had to have a lovely cuppa and squirrel biscuit from the lovely El Beso in View street...YUM!
